Softball Falls in Series Finale To Centenary

SHREVEPORT, LA — The Southwestern University softball team lost 2-0 in their final Southern Athletic Collegiate Conference (SCAC) game against the Centenary College Ladies this afternoon.

In a closely matched game, both Southwestern and Centenary went scoreless in the first and second inning. But in the bottom of the third inning, with the bases loaded, Centenary's Kaylea Patridge fielded out to the left-field, but Mallory Stout was able to reach home base and score the first run the Ladies. The Pirates tried to come back with a score, but pitcher Hailee Leger and the Ladies defense kept the Pirates from making any significant advances. Centenary scored one more run in the bottom of the fifth inning, and the game ended 2-0 in the seventh inning.

Izzy RicheyMaddie MeffordSam Martinez and Brooke Yanta had one hit each for Southwestern. Pitcher Paige Rassmusen took the loss for the Pirates to drop to 2-4 on the year. The Southwestern Pirates are now 6-6 in SCAC play and 8-13 overall.

Southwestern softball will get ready to host the St. Thomas Celts for a three-game series on Friday, April 9 at 6 p.m. and then Saturday, April 10 at 12 and 2 p.m.
