Three Pirates Earn All-SCAC Softball Honors

The Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) announced its 2021 All-SCAC Softball Team, recognizing three Southwestern University Pirates. 

Infielder Maddie Mefford earned All-SCAC First Team honors at second base. The junior from Lake Jackson, Texas, hit career highs in batting average (.387), on-base percentage (.404), and slugging percentage (.523). She finished the season with 43 hits, including 10 doubles, a triple, and one home run, driving in 12 RBIs and scoring 20 runs in 33 games. She previously earned All-SCAC Second Team honors in 2019. 

Kinly McCaffrey, a junior from Santa Monica, California, earned Second Team All-SCAC honors as a utility player. She was steady at the plate, hitting .340 for the season (16-for-47) with three doubles and one home run, driving in eight RBIs and scoring eight runs. McCaffrey was also solid in the pitcher's circle, where she was All-SCAC Honorable Mention, compiling a 3-2 record with a save, pitching four complete games with 49 strikeouts and a 4.53 ERA. 

Katelyn Francis, a catcher from College Station, Texas, earned her third all-conference recognition with her second All-SCAC Honorable Mention award. The senior finished with a .368 batting average, recording career highs in on-base percentage (.479) and slugging percentage (.474). She finished with 28 hits, including five doubles and a home run, driving in 10 RBIs with 15 runs scored. 

Southwestern finished the season with a 14-19 record, going 11-10 in conference play, earning the fourth seed in the SCAC Championship Tournament.
