Pirates lock down second place with Schreiner sweep

GEORGETOWN, Texas - Southwestern secured second place in the SCAC after defeating Schreiner University 8-5 and 10-2 (6).

Schreiner came ready to play, scoring three runs in the third inning, but Southwestern more than matched their effort with four in the third and fourth. Lindsey Longuet took control of the game on the mound in the final three innings to earn the save while Chandler Smith earned the win.

Paige McShan led at the plate with a massive 3-4 effort with four RBIs including a homerun.

The Mountaineers plated two in the first in game two, but SU's bats got hot again as they posted four runs in response.

Longuet and the Pirate defense took over after that to held Schreiner scoreless the rest of the way while adding three runs in the third and sixth to secure the run rule win and complete the sweep.

Andrea Hern went 2-2 with two RBIs while Marissa Irvin posted a 3-4 game two with two RBIs.

The Pirates have gotten hot at the right time, winning 19 of their last 20 dating back to March 3rd. They sit at 22-10 on the year and 15-3 in the SCAC and trail only Texas Lutheran in the rankings. SU closes the regular season next weekend as they host Trinity University for four games beginning Saturday afternoon.
