Pirates Battle The Crusaders At Home

Pirates Battle The Crusaders At Home

GEORGETOWN, TEXAS- The Pirates, who have played seven games in the last week alone, hosted the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor Crusaders at Taylor-Sanders Field for a single game on Thursday evening.

The Crusaders came into the matchup with a 1-1 record, and on the mound for them was Kami Flores, who had just been named ASC Co-Pitcher of the Week. The Crusaders jumped out to an early lead 1-0 at the top of the 1st. UHMB did an excellent job of getting on base, but the Pirates held them from scoring again until the 4th inning. As the game was nearing an end, UHMB was in the lead 5-0, and it looked like Kami Flores would get the shutout.

In the bottom of the seventh, Erica Otto stepped up and hit a double, advancing Calle Collier to third base and into scoring position. Beth Yanta grounded out to second but was able to move everyone on the bases, including Erica Otto, for the first score of the night. Emily Nevarez kept the momentum going and singled to third base, bringing in Otto for the score. The Pirates were now applying pressure, and the Crusaders called a time-out. Ashtyn Aldrete hit a perfectly placed ball to left field, allowing Nevarez to score. Unfortunately, this was the night's final score for the Pirates, and UHMB won in seven innings, 5-3.

Next up for the Pirates is a double-header versus Hanover at Taylor-Sanders Field on March 1st at 5:00 PM & 7:00 PM.
