GEORGETOWN, Texas - Pirate pitcher Lindsey Longuet threw a no-hitter in the first game of a doubleheader against the Austin College Roos, and then the Pirates went on to sweep the set with a  9-1 win in their second Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) series.

As Longuet pitched the perfect game, the first game ended in an 8-0 win for the Pirates.

At the beginning of the second game, pitcher Lexi Shafer struck out two Roo hitters while Jessey Nunez tagged out the second base runner to leave Austin College scoreless after the 1st inning.  Kaitlynn Copher, who earned the game-high of three RBI's, singled in the bottom of the first to allow Sydney Scott to score the first run of the game. Austin College struggled with a few errors that allowed Copher and Maddie Mefford to score two more runs to end the bottom of the first 3-0 with a Pirate lead.

The second inning saw the Roos remain scoreless while the Pirates kept up the momentum as Copher hit a double to let Tori Montemayor and Jordan Farber make two more runs. Mefford then singled to center field and Copher scored the sixth run in the bottom of the second inning, gaining more of a lead over Austin College.

The Roos were unable to get past Shafer on the mound and went scoreless once again going into the bottom of the third inning. Kathryn Dull, who started at bat for the Pirates, hit the first home run of her career and was hailed by a wave of cheers from her teammates who called her back to home plate for a celebration.

The Pirates kept their steak alive, scoring two more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to make the game 9-0 before going into the top of the fifth. The Pirates made a pitcher change and had Sydney Hodge, who has been out most of the preseason with an injury, in to pitch the last part of the game. The first two outs were made by the Southwestern defense but the Roos were able to make one run making the score 9-1. But after the scored run, Hodge struck out the last batter in the fifth inning, ending the game with a Pirates win.

The Southwestern University softball team improves 11-5 and 4-1 in conference play. The Pirates will finish the last game of their series tomorrow on Sunday, March 8 at noon on Taylor Sander Field.
