Softball Flexes Its Power in Victory Over Dallas

GEORGETOWN, Texas – The Southwestern University Pirates softball team flexed warning track power and beyond, defeating the University of Dallas Crusaders 8-0 in Game 3 of the four-game series on senior day.

Southwestern University hitters sent several shots off the fence, foreshadowing a three-run blast that keyed a five-run fourth inning to put the game into mercy rule territory.

Maddie Mefford opened the bottom of the second with a shot off the top of the centerfield wall for a standup double and Katelyn Francis found the gap through the infield into left-center for the RBI double. Kylie Nixon kept the momentum going with a shot off the wall in deep left-center for another RBI-double.

The Pirates appeared set to keep the momentum going after Andrea Hern drew a one-out walk to put runners on first and second but Dallas shortstop Catelyn Stevenson robbed at least another two runs, diving to snag a line drive out of mid-air and landing on second for the unassisted double play.

Jordan Farber opened the third inning with a leadoff double to centerfield and Katie Bricarell knocked her in with a one-out single to center to give the Pirates a 3-0 lead.

Southwestern put its first three hitters on to load the bases in the bottom of fourth, reaching on a hit batter, Izzy Richey single to left field, and error. Tori Montemayor grounded out to shortstop, scoring Kylie Nixon. After Farber popped out to shortstop, Kaitlynn Copher hit a three-run blast to clear the bases. Katie Bricarell followed with a double to left-center and Maddie Mefford followed with a RBI-double to centerfield to give the Pirates their 8-0 lead.

Lindsey Longuet pitched another complete-game shutout for the Pirates, bringing her record to 14-2. In five innings, she limited Dallas to just two hits with one walk and two strikeouts.

With the win, the Pirates improved to 32-4 on the season and 17-3 in conference play.
