Softball Drops Third Straight

The home and away series between the Southwestern University Pirates and Texas Lutheran University (TLU) Bulldogs moved to Georgetown, where the Pirates surrendered a season-high 12 runs in the first game of the day two doubleheader; losing 12-1 in five innings.

Southwestern went through five different pitchers, giving up 14 hits with nine walks and nine of the 12 runs earned and the other three coming off one error.

Texas Lutheran struck early with three consecutive singles, scoring Kelly Jurden on a Rebecca Snow RBI single in the top of the first before starting pitcher Lindsey Longuet got out of the inning with a strikeout and two pop-ups.

Cassie Roche flexed some power for TLU in the top of the second, sparking a four-run inning with a one-out solo home run. The Bulldogs followed with consecutive singles again, scoring Jurden a second time, ending Longuet's day. A few hitters later, relief pitcher Lexi Shafer gave up a two-RBI single to DeAnna Hernandez for the 5-0 lead. Nadia Netek replaced Shafer, getting out of the inning.

The Pirates got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the third inning, scoring Sydney Scott on an error.

Netek pitched 2.1 scoreless innings before the Bulldogs got to her in the top of the fifth, giving up a single, walk, and three-run home run by Haley Padilla.

Sydney Hodge replaced her, giving up four runs before Tori Montemayor replaced her to end the inning. Southwestern put two runners on in the bottom of the fifth but failed to score, ending the game.

The Pirates finished with seven hits, led by Scott's 3-for-3 performance with a run scored. Southwestern left five on base. With the loss, the Pirates dropped to 6-3.
