Pirates rebound with shutout wins at home

GEORGETOWN, Texas - After a tough weekend Southwestern returned home to face Hardin-Simmons Wednesday afternoon and posted a pair of shutout victories, defeating the Cowgirls 4-0 in game one and 8-0 in five innings in game two.

The Pirates got off to a slow start offensively, not logging a hit until the fifth inning in game one. Once the flood gates opened, however, there was no slowing them down as they posted all four runs in the inning. Nadia Netek earned the win on the mound, scattering seven hits throughout the game. Mary Alex Krosby went 2-3 from the plate while Katie Bricarell posted three RBIs in the win.

It took just two innings in game two for the Pirates to get on the board. Taylor Curtis led off the scoring with a solo shot to left field and Katelyn Francis drove home Krosby from second base for the second run of the inning. The Pirates manufactured three runs in the fourth and fifth innings with solid execution and smart baserunning to secure the run-rule win.

Bailey Meyer earned the win on the mound, allowing just two hits and one walk while striking out ten. Curtis was a perfect 2-2 from the plate while Sydney Scott went 3-4 with two RBIs.

Southwestern improves to 11-7 on the year. They remain at home this weekend and return to SCAC play to host Centenary College for a four game series beginning with a double-header on Saturday at 1 pm.
