Crusaders, Pirates end in draw

GEORGETOWN, Texas – Defenses controlled the match as Southwestern and the University of Dallas women's soccer match ended in a scoreless tie on Friday night.

A quiet first half barely produced a shot on goal let alone a goal itself, but Sarah Bevins was just inches from putting SU on the board with a minute remaining. Her shot slid just left of the post and out of harm's way just before the halftime buzzer sounded.

The second opened with a much quicker tempo as both teams were searching for the win. Kylie Peterson gave the Crusaders their first great look ten minutes into the frame, but the Pirate defense held strong and blocked the shot to push it off frame.

Southwestern wasn't devoid of opportunities as Bevins and Malorie Lara both had great looks at goal that were just off target, keeping the game scoreless.

In the second overtime it seemed the Pirates had taken the win on Krysta Maples one touch shot at point blank range with just under three minutes to play. Her shot hit the bottom side of the crossbar and missed crossing the line by mere millimeters.

Southwestern won the shot count 12-5 and corner kick battle 3-2.

SU moves to 5-10-2 on the year and 5-4-1 in the SCAC while Dallas goes to 8-7-1 overall and 6-3-1 in conference play. Southwestern remains at home to play their final home contest on Sunday. Kick off against Austin College is set for 2 pm.
