KERRVILLE, Texas — Southwestern scored a goal on the first shot of the game and held the lead the rest of the way for a 1-0 victory over the Schreiner Mountaineers.

The Pirates pressed Schreiner on the opening possession, taking control of the ball for the first time in their own attacking third. Southwestern quickly earned a throw-in a few steps away from the deep left corner, setting up a quick set of passes from Alexis Guajardo to Karlee Holmes, who crossed a beautiful pass in front of the net, hitting Maya Fuller in perfect stride for the quick goal a minute-and-a-half in.

Southwestern dominated possession from then on, holding Schreiner without a shot while taking six before the half. The trend continued in the second half, with the Pirates taking a 7-2 advantage in shots, putting all seven on goal.

Schreiner goalie Audrey Rivera did an admirable job, recording eight saves, including seven in the second half. Johnna Campbell went relatively untested in the net for Southwestern, stopping the lone shot the Mountaineers put on goal.

Southwestern finished with a 13-2 advantage in shots, earning a 10-1 edge in corner kicks with eight coming in the second half.

Fuller's goal was the second of the season, both of which were game-winners, earning four points so far. She has 13 goals for her career, seven of which have been game-winners.

The Pirates improve to 3-1 this season, dropping Schreiner to 0-5. Southwestern will host Centenary next weekend on Saturday, April 3 at 1:00 p.m.
