SAN ANTONIO, Texas — In a hard-fought game, the Southwestern University women's soccer team fell to the Trinity Tigers 2-4 on the road this Sunday afternoon.

In an anticipated rematch with the Tigers, who lost to the Pirates in penalty kicks for the 2020 Sothern Colligate Athletic Conference (SCAC) championship title, Trinity wasted no time and scored the first goal of the game within four minutes. With the game 1-0 in the Tiger's favor, Southwestern struggled in the first half of the game, with only two opportunities to shoot at the Trinity goal box. The Tigers, who had no trouble cutting through the Pirate's defense, took 14 shots at goalie Johnna Campbellwho had six saves in the first half. Campbell kept the Tigers from scoring another goal, which ended the first half 1-0, Pirates down.

In the second half, Southwestern felt the urgency to score a goal to get back in the game. Within the first minutes of the half, Alexis Guajardo took a shot at the Tiger goal, which went to the far left, but this would not slow down the Pirates. After a foul by the Tigers, Southwestern's Sydney Kattawar took a direct kick on the far right outside of the 18-yard box and scored the tying goal the Pirates desperately needed.

However, the celebration did not last too long. Trinity took control of the ball and kept attacking the Pirate's defense, which resulted in the Tigers scoring two back-to-back goals, making the game 3-1 and putting the Pirates behind once again.

The Pirates did not give up or lose focus after the two goals Trinity made. Juliet Pridgen was able to catch the ball off of a fast break to make the contest between just her and the Trinity goalie and with one sweep to the right, Pridgen swiftly kicked the ball into the net, making the game 3-2 with the Pirates down one.

With the time running out, the Pirates struggled to get the ball offensively to score a goal to tie the game. At five minutes left in the game, Trinity scored a fourth goal, solidifying the lead ending the game 4-2.

Highlighted players in the game include Southwestern goalie Johnna Campbellwho had ten saves out of the 26 shots taken on the Pirate goal.

Up next, the Southwestern women's soccer team will travel to Sherman, Texas, to take on the Austin College Roos on Saturday, March 13 at 10 a.m.
