Women's Soccer Defeats Centenary 4-0

SHREVEPORT, La. — The No. 23-ranked Southwestern women's soccer team breezed through its contest against the Centenary Ladies, winning 4-0. 

Midfielder Yamila Lara put Southwestern on the board with her second goal of the season on an unassisted goal a little more than 12 minutes into the game. Then, roughly 16 minutes later, Sydney Kattawar scored on a free kick to put the Pirates up 2-0. 

Samantha Hazen scored two goals in the second half, finding the back of the net on feeds from Melanie Saldana and Hanna Sanderson to score her sixth and seventh goals of the season. 

Southwestern had 17 shots to Centenary's two. Southwestern goalkeeper Johnna Campbell stopped the only shot she faced. The Pirates also had an 8-0 edge in corner kicks. 

The Pirates improve to 11-1 this season, including 3-0 in conference play. Southwestern will stay on the road to face St. Thomas on Sunday, Oct. 17, at 1:00 p.m.
