GEORGETOWN, TEXAS - The Southwestern Women's Soccer team got a bounce-back win on Sunday afternoon against the Schreiner University Mountaineers after falling to Trinity on Friday night. Schreiner came into the game 0-2-1 in conference play while the Pirates maintained a 1-1-1 record.

The Pirates dominated the time of possession from start to finish, maintaining the ball in their attacking third or in the midfield throughout the entirety of the game. The chances didn't start coming until later on in the first half when first-year Mia Morales scored on a beautiful pass from senior defender Kate Ngyuen. To close out the half, Meredith Lannan showed off her footwork, getting herself open amongst Mountaineer defenders and scoring from a few yards inside the box.

In the second half, junior Laren Gradt made good on a free-kick opportunity from almost dead center atop of the 18. With so much of the game time being taken up by the Pirate offense, tallying 26 total shots, goalkeepers Johnna Campbell and Kalista Esquivel-Serna only each recorded one save on the afternoon.

"We got to play a lot of players today and Mia Morales scoring a goal as a freshman was great, we moved the ball well and had a lot of opportunities. Didn't execute our crosses as well as I would have liked but we possessed the ball and attacked as a team," said Head Coach Linda Hamilton.

When Coach Hamilton was asked what this win meant after Friday's loss, and what it would mean moving forward she had this to say,

"It's about our development and growth, we need to play games for 90 full minutes. On Friday night we learned a lesson, we only competed for 45 minutes, and that showed in the scoreline. But, coming out and scoring in each half showed growth in that area. There won't be easy games going forward so we just need to keep putting the ball in the back of the net when we have chances. We always want to take care of business on our home field so coming back and giving up no goals and scoring three is great and it's a good thing to get a conference win on Sunday afternoon."

The Pirates are back at home on Friday Night to take on the University of Dallas Crusaders at 5:00 PM.
