GEORGETOWN, Texas — The Southwestern University women's soccer team earned their fourth win of the season as they beat the Centenary College Ladies 1-0 this Saturday afternoon.

At the beginning of the game, Centenary took advantage of the offense and took the first shot at the Pirate goal. The Ladies took two more shots before Southwestern's Juliet Pridgen took the first shot at Centenary's goal box. Though the Ladies' goalie stopped Pridgen's shot, this play seemed to kick start Southwestern's offense to attack Centenary's defense. As time started to get closer to the end of the first half, Maya Fuller found an opening on a fast break, defeating two defenders and dribbling towards the left side of the goal box. As the Centenary's goalie charged to protect the box, Fuller took a swift kick to the middle, where Samiah Varnell and her defender kicked the ball into the goal. The half ended with Southwestern leading Centenary 1-0.

In the second half, the Pirates completely shut down the Ladies' offense. Southwestern only allowed one shot taken on goal at the Pirate box, and the game ended with a 1-0 Southwestern win. The Pirates now improve their record 4-1 in Southern Colligate Athletic Conference (SCAC) play.

Pirate goalie Johnna Campbell had four saves and with this game earned her third complete shutout of the season.

Up next, the Southwestern women's soccer team will host the St. Thomas University Celts on Varsity Field, Tuesday, April 6, at 7 p.m.
