The Pirates Fall Short In SCAC Final

The Pirates Fall Short In SCAC Final

GEORGETOWN, TEXAS- The Pirates made it to the SCAC final for the sixth time in program history and the second time in three years.

They faced off against the number one seed, Trinity University, for the championship match at SaberCats Stadium in Houston, Texas. Trinity came out shooting to start the match, but the Pirates kept just enough pressure on them to contest all shots. The Pirates managed to get just two shots off in the first half, compared to Trinity's eleven, but both teams went into halftime tied 0-0. The game was evenly matched and became a defensive battle before Trinity's Clara Richards got to a loose ball first inside the box and fired a shot to take the lead with just four minutes left to play in regulation. Richard's goal in the 86th minute, is the latest goal scored in a 1-0 regulation game in SCAC women's tournament history and the Pirates ran out of time.

Johnna Campbell finished the tournament with 10 saves, bringing her career total to 34, fifth most in SCAC Tournament history.

Samantha Hazen, Jr., F, Jackie Powell, Fy., F, and Johnna Campbell, Sr., GK were all selected for the All-Tournament team.

The Pirates finished out their season with an overall record of 8-9-2, and 4-2-1 in conference.
