GEORGETOWN, Texas — The Southwestern University women's soccer team defeated the St. Thomas Celts in their highest-scoring game of the season 4-0 this Tuesday evening.

Southwestern had a spectacular performance in the first half, playing with the wind on their side. The first shot on goal was taken by St. Thomas within the first three minutes of the game. But shortly after, Southwestern had a corner kick in which Hanna Sanderson kicked the ball to the opposite side of the goal, allowing Sydney Kattawar to head the ball into the Celt's goal box for the first score.

After this goal, St. Thomas tried to answer back, taking two high and wide shots at the Pirate goal, but nothing fell. Then Hanna Sanderson again lined up for a corner kick and instead of passing for someone else to score, Sanderson kicked the ball right over the Celt's goalie's head and scored the second goal for the Pirates. After Sanderson's goal, Juliet Pridgen scored the third goal for the Pirates within the first 22 minutes of the game. St Thomas could find no opening to score the rest of the half, so the Pirates ended the first half 3-0.

In the second half, the Celts tried to score but the Pirates completely shut out the St. Thomas offensive effort. Southwestern goalie Johnna Campbell saved five goals for the Pirates in the second half, giving the Pirates leisure to take their time. With the clock winding down, Whitney Whitehill was able to sweep past a Celt defender to score the final goal for the Pirates, ending the game 4-0 with a Pirate win.

Women's soccer now improves their record 5-1 in Southern Colligate Athletic Conference (SCAC) play. Up next, the Southwestern women's soccer team will travel to Irving, Texas to play Dallas this Saturday, April 10, at 4 p.m.
