SHERMAN, Texas — The Southwestern University women's soccer team earned its second win of the season as the team beat the Austin College Roos 1-0 this Saturday afternoon in Sherman.

In their second road game of the season, the Pirates now improve their record 2-1 in Southern Colligate Athletic Conference (SCAC) play.

Southwestern dominated the first half, attacking Austin College's goal and swiftly cutting through the defense. However, in the first part of the half, none of the Pirate's shots were landing. With ten minutes left in the first half, defensive back Hanna Sanderson took possession of the goal kick and swiftly passed it to Juliana Chapawho decided to pass the ball to Alexis Guajardo. Guajardo received the ball at midfield, blew past her defender, and then dribbled the ball to the goal box. After dribbling past another defender, Guajardo shot the ball at the Roo's goal. The Austin College's goalie blocked the shot, but Guajardo had followed her shot and took the ball off the block, taking a second shot that landed at the back of the box, giving Southwestern the first goal of the game. The first half ended with the Pirates in the lead.

In the second half, the Roo's became scrappy with the ball, feeling the pressure to try to score a goal to tie the game. Austin College fought to make their way back into the game, but the Pirate defense held strong and with the clock winding down, Austin College was unable to score. The game ended with a Pirate victory.

Up next, the Southwestern women's soccer team will get ready to host the St. Thomas University Celts on Varsity Field next weekend on Friday, March 19, at 7 p.m.
