The Pirates Beat Whitman Blues 2-1

The Pirates Beat Whitman Blues 2-1

GEORGETOWN, TX- With two minutes of play left, a late game header by forward Nathaniel Blake helps lift the Pirates past the Whitman Blues.

Traveling from Walla Walla, Washington, the Blues came into this match with a 0-1-1 record. It was a very physical match that included a combined 21 total fouls for both of the teams. Both teams were very evenly matched defensively and all three goals were scored off of a dead ball situation. Blues Pablo Gonzalez scored the first goal of the match, sending the ball over the four-man wall set up by the Pirates and just out of reach of Pirates goalie, Brendan Prather. The ball hit the crossbar and managed to barely cross the goal line in the 11th minute. The Pirates answered just six minutes later as Raghav Sharma scored off of a header thrown in by Carr Panetta and kept alive by Cooper Pero

Finally, with two minutes to go, the Blues fouled the Pirates in their territory. Michael Grimm took the free kick, and with a unique angle on the play, senior Nathanial Blake got a head on it and placed it perfectly in the left corner of the goal.

The Pirates improved their record to 2-0-1 and play the Texas-Dallas Comets on Sunday, September 10th at 2:30 PM CDT.
