Men's Soccer Downs Undefeated St. Thomas 1-0

GEORGETOWN, Texas – The Southwestern University men's soccer team used a 1-0 victory in a battle of two strong defense to hand the University of St. Thomas its first loss of the season on Friday evening at Varsity Field.

Head coach Dustin Norman saw his Pirates remain tied for second place in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference with a 4-4-2 overall record and 2-1 in conference play for six points in the SCAC standings alongside Texas Lutheran.

The Pirates were only able to put two shots on goal in the defensive battle, but it was Greyson Pinto's shot in the 34th minute that got past Rodrigo Lazo for a 1-0 Southwestern lead. Pinto's goal was assisted by Winston Hebert and was his second goal of the season while Hebert notched his second assist of the season as well. 

The Celts may still have the best overall record in the SCAC at 7-1-2 but fell to seventh in the standings with a 0-1-1 conference record. 

Southwestern managed to take just seven shots spread out amongst six players, while the Celts 10 shots with five on goal.

Jack Viles improved his record in goal for the Pirates to 4-4-2 by saving all five shots the Celts put on goal.

Southwestern will look to finally string together consecutive wins when they graciously host the Gentlemen of Centenary College for a 1 p.m. CDT kickoff on Sunday.
