SAN ANTONIO, Texas — The Southwestern University men's soccer team found themselves once again in a double-overtime situation and earned their second tie of the season against the Trinity Tigers in an exciting match played Saturday afternoon on Varsity Field.

Trinity's offense took advantage of the first few possessions and took two shots at Southwestern's goal. Skyler Frey and Jackson DeHaven both took shots at the Tiger's goal box trying to take the early lead for the Pirates. However, halfway into the first half, Trinity's Fraser Burns was given a penalty kick after a foul and scored the goal, giving Trinity the lead. Southwestern tried to gain the offensive possession, but with the time winding down, Trinity ended the first half with a 1-0 lead over the Pirates.

Southwestern came back during the second half with a vengeance and took five shots at the Trinity goal within the first 15 minutes of the half. The Pirates controlled the ball most of the second half, only giving Trinity two opportunities to shoot at the Pirate goal box. As the clock drew nearer to the 90 minutes mark, the game seemed to be in Trinity's favor. But with five minutes left in the game, Nathaniel Blake took a corner kick shot that was deflected by the Trinity goalie but then bounced right to Jacob Piat, who fired a shot to the back of the Tiger net. The game-tying Pirate goal sent the play into overtime. Both Southwestern and Trinity fought in double overtime to earn the winning shot but came up short, and the game ended 1-1.

Highlights from the game include Southwestern goalie Jack Viles having three saves out of the four shots that Trinity took at him.

Southwestern University men's soccer improves 2-0-2 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) play. Up next, The Pirates will travel to Shreveport, LA, to play the Centenary College Gents on Saturday, April 3 at 3 p.m.
