Mofe Ariyo Named SCAC Offensive Player of the Week

Mofe Ariyo Named SCAC Offensive Player of the Week
MOFE ARIYO OF SOUTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY, a freshman forward from Houston, Texas, has been named the SCAC Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for games played through Sunday, April 4th.

Ariyo scored his first college goal in a pivotal situation with 15 minutes remaining to avoid any late drama as Southwestern defeated Centenary 2-0 at home last Saturday. The goal was a fantastic individual play after chasing down a ball, flicking it over the last defender, and hitting a half volley past the goalkeeper. The win helped secure three critical points in the league standings and kept Southwestern unbeaten by opening five fixtures for the first time since the 2005 season.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior midfielder Miles Montgomery of Colorado College set up the tying and go-ahead goals during the Tigers' 5-2 come-from-behind victory last Saturday against Dallas. Freshman defender Ethan Johnson of Dallas scored his first collegiate goal in a 5-2 loss to Colorado College last Saturday. Senior midfielder Ethan Moore of Trinity scored his first goal of the season in the Tigers' 3-0 win over Texas Lutheran last Saturday. Moore collected a failed clearance at the corner of the 18-yard box and sent a spectacular shot into the corner beyond the Bulldog goalkeeper's reach.
