Seth Holzmann's Game-Winner Leads Men's Soccer Past JWU

DENVER, Colo. —Sophomore forward Seth Holzmann found the back of the net almost two minutes into overtime to propel the Southwestern University Pirates men's soccer past Johnson & Wales University (JWU) Denver 3-2.

Johnson & Wales struck early, putting the first points on the board when Alexis Araiza found Josh Guzman, who put the ball through by going to the bottom right corner less than five minutes into the match.

The Pirates controlled possession the rest of the half, recording 12 shots, including nine on goal, scoring two goals to take a 2-1 lead into the break.

Michael Glode put the Pirates on the board with an assist from Jack Adams off a rebound from the right side to tie the match just under 30 minutes in. Ten minutes later, Adams rebounded his own missed penalty shot to give the Pirates a 2-1 lead.

Emad Bashir-Mohammed tied the match less than 10 minutes into the second half off a pass from Kyle Hernandez off a free kick. Southwestern goalie Sam Laude and his JWU counterpart Zac Collins had three saves each the rest of the way, sending the match into sudden death overtime.

Holzmann clinched the match at the 1:57 mark in overtime, receiving a pass from Michael Glode, dribbling through the middle and sending a shot to the bottom left for the goal.

It was Holzmann's fifth goal of the season and third game-winner, bringing his season point total to 11.
