Carreño-Mendez earns First Team All-SCAC honors

First-year Andres Carreño-Mendez led the Pirates in goals in 2014 and has been named a First Team All-SCAC player after his first season.

Carreño-Mendez, from Georgetown, Texas, ended the year fifth in the conference in goals with eight and sixth in points with 19. He led the SCAC in game-winning goals, however, with four on the season, all coming in conference play.

Joining Andres in the report were defender Curran Daniel as a Second Team pick and Honorable Mention selections midfielders Zach Faulkner and Tanner Irons.

Daniel, a sophomore from Pearland, Texas, battled injury this season and was still one of the most influential defenders for the Pirates. Starting 14 of the 19 contests he played in, Daniel took five shots with two being on goal for a .400 shots on goal percentage and was a key component in the two SU shutouts this season.

Faulkner, a senior Rowlett, Texas, captained the ship on the field as one of the few seniors in the starting line-up for SU. He started all 21 contests this season, scoring one goal and assisting on two others for four points. He took 38 shots with 15 being on target for a .395 shots on goal percentage.

Irons, a first-year from Dripping Springs, Texas, brought power to the midfield. Irons posted 14 starts in 19 games with one assist for one point. He took 19 shots on the season with 6 being on frame for a .316 shots on goal percentage.

This is the first all-conference nod for Carreño-Mendez, Daniel and Irons while Faulkner earned his third Second Team All-SCAC pick.

Southwestern ended the season at 8-12-1 overall, 7-6-1 in the SCAC, after falling in the SCAC Championship Semifinals to Colorado College.
