Conference win streak snapped by Tigers

Conference win streak snapped by Tigers

GEORGETOWN, Texas - Colorado College got the revenge they were seeking as they handed Southwestern their first conference loss, 4-0, on Friday evening.

The Pirates were strategic with their attacks in the first half while Colorado College went at the goal with reckless abandon through the opening 15 minutes. The Tigers got off the first real shot of the game but it was SU that had the first true scoring opportunity as Kyle Allen fed Steven Resnik from the back field, setting up a breakaway opportunity that was broken up by Colorado's Tom Crosby in goal.

CC committed numerous fouls deep in their territory, giving the Pirates good looks at goal, but it was the Tigers that struck first in the 36th minute. Alec Sowers played the ball from the middle of the field 25 yards out to the right of the goal to Caden MacKenzie. MacKenzie calmly collected and played the ball into the box to Brandon Ogilvie 10 yards straight on who buried the ball in the back of the net, giving the Tigers a 1-0 lead.

The half came to a close with CC retaining a 1-0 lead, but quickly pulled away in the second half with a pair of goals in one minute to lead 3-0. Another Tiger goal in the 67th minute put the Pirates at their largest deficit of the season.

Still, the Pirates didn't back down and continued to attack until the final seconds before falling 4-0.

Southwestern trailed 13-8 in shots and 6-4 in corner kicks. Daniel Poole posted six saves while Crosby had three on the evening.

With the loss, their first since mid-September, the Pirates fall to 9-5 on the year and 7-1 in the SCAC. They look to kickoff another win streak on Sunday, hosting the University of Dallas at 2 pm.
