Perkins Paces Pirates to Conference Win

Perkins Paces Pirates to Conference Win

IRVING, Texas - Evan Perkins scored two goals and assisted on the third to lead the Pirates to a 3-0 win over the University of Dallas Friday.

It was evident early that Southwestern was firing on all cylinders as they got shot after shot in the first 20 minutes of the match. Perkins scored his first goal, assisted by Zach Faulkner, in the 27th minute and added a second in the 44th minute unassisted. Southwestern dominated the half and kept the Crusaders from any real attack, holing UD to just one shot in the frame.

Dallas came out a different team in the second half and applied much more pressure to SU's defensive line. Southwestern didn't give in and handled the attacks with the poise and defender Matthew Nickell came off the back line to score the third goal of the match, assisted by Perkins, to give the Pirates a comfortable 3-0 lead.

Daniel Poole recorded five saves in the win, including two saves in the final 30 seconds to keep the shutout in tact. Southwestern took 18 shots while Dallas got off 12.

Southwestern improves to 11-6 on the season and 5-3 in the SCAC after the win. They remain in second place and head to Colorado College on Sunday to take on the third place Tigers.
