Resnik and Eamma Team-Up to Launch Pirates to Victory

SAN ANTONIO, Texas. - Steven Resnik, assisted by Timothy Eamma, posted two first half goals to give Southwestern men's soccer at 2-0 victory over Hardin-Simmons University Friday evening. The win improves SU to 2-2 on the year.

Hardin-Simmons started out strong with two early corner kicks and one shot, putting early pressure on SU's defense. It was Southwestern, however, that put the ball in the back of the net on their first solid look at goal. Eamma found Resnik breaking toward the goal and Resnik took advantage of the play by drilling the ball past HSU's keeper for a 1-0 lead.

After the goal and three more shots the Cowboys started to get more physical, trying to out-muscle the Pirates. The tactic didn't work as Southwestern just turned up the heat even more and the duo of Resnik and Eamma teamed up again for the second goal of the game in the 27th minute.

A flurry of substitutions by both teams closed out the half and, despite one more shot on goal saved by Daniel Poole, the Pirates were never threatened the remainder of the way.

The teams traded shots as the second half got underway and Southwestern's defense was nearly impenetrable the remainder of the game as HSU got off just two shots in the final thirty minutes.

The Pirates led 11-9 in shots but took just one corner kick to HSU's six. Poole recorded four saves in the win while Hardin-Simmons' Sam Potter posted five saves.

Southwestern will remain in San Antonio to face UT Dallas on Saturday evening. Game time is set for 5:30 pm.
