Perkins’ Record-Setting Four Goals Catapult Pirates to Season Opening Victory

SEGUIN, Texas - Senior Evan Perkins started his senior campaign with a record-setting four goal performance on Friday night, leading the Pirates to a 7-1 victory over Texas Lutheran University.

The Bulldogs jumped on the scoreboard first, shocking the Pirates with a goal just 25 minutes into the contest despite SU rattling off the first seven shots of the game. Just three minutes later, Perkins starting off the scoring rampage, assisted by Timothy Eamma, to tie the game 1-1.

Eamma gave the Pirates the lead in the 32nd minute, assisted by Forrest Baker, and sent Southwestern into halftime up 2-1.

It was a cautious start to the second half as both teams worked to figure out the adjustments made at halftime and it was SU that broke the Bulldog code as Perkins scored three more goals in just over three minutes. Perkins, assisted by Eamma, Steven Resnik and Ryan Staten, gave Southwestern a comfortable 5-1 lead.

As the Pirates' defense continued to hold off Texas Lutheran's attack the offense continued to press on and put two more goals in the back of the net. Paden Williams, assisted by Dane Beyer and Garrett Johns, scored in the 66th minute and 72nd minute to hand Southwestern the 7-1 final.

SU dominated the shot count 21-10 and took three more corner kicks than the Bulldogs, 6-3. Daniel Poole earned his first win of the season in goal, recording three saves on 10 shots, four on goal. Perkins took six shots, all on goal, with four goals to lead all scorers while Eamma posted a team high two assists with one goal.

Southwestern has a quick turn-around as they come to Georgetown for their home opener on Saturday. They face Willamette University at 7pm.
