Women's Soccer Loses to #6 Ranked Christopher Newport

NEWPORT NEWS, Va.- The Southwestern University Pirates traveled to play Christopher Newport University for the first time in program history. 

This was CNUW's season opener and they came into this match ranked #6. The Captains' first goal came less than fifteen minutes into the game and Southwestern was able to head into halftime only down by 1 goal. The Pirates battled hard to withstand CNUW's pressure, despite the Captains having the advantage with corners, shots, and shots on goal. They finished with an outstanding 35 shots, 14 of them being on target. The Pirates finished with just 3 shots on goal. 

Pirates goalkeeper, Johnna Campbell, matched her career-high with 12 saves in the 2-0 loss.
