Women's Soccer Team Falls to Dallas in SCAC Semifinals

SEGUIN, Texas — The Southwestern University women's soccer team fell to a last-minute goal against the University of Dallas in double overtime of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) semifinal match.

In a hard-fought game, Southwestern struggled to get the ball past Dallas goalie Macey Henderson. The Pirates started the first half aggressively on offense and took six shots, placing four on goal. Karlee Holmes created two opportunities to score for the Pirates, but Henderson was able to stop Holmes's attempts.

In the second half, Dallas picked up the tempo and took eight shots. Unfazed, Johnna Campbell made three big saves to prevent the Crusaders from scoring. With the defense working with Campbell, the Pirates withstood the Crusaders to send the game into overtime.

Southwestern's Mary Kate Beggs took a quick shot within the first minute of overtime but was denied by Henderson. The Pirate defense was just as steady, negating three Dallas corner kicks and getting a save by Campbell to force a second overtime.

With the clock winding down on the second overtime, Dallas's Andrea Coppi slipped the ball past Campbell to score the golden goal and advance to the SCAC Championship match.

Campbell finished with six saves for the Pirates to finish the season with 37 and five shutouts. Southwestern women's soccer ends their season with a 6-2 record.
