Women's Soccer Draws Schreiner to End Regular Season

Women's Soccer Draws Schreiner to End Regular Season

KERRVILLE, Texas – With both teams already locked into their positions in next weekend's Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference postseason tournament, the Southwestern University women's soccer team as well as the opposing Schreiner University used their match to tighten up some things on both sides of the ball as they played to a 0-0 draw.

Southwestern's defense was impressive throughout the contest and allowed the Mountaineers just one shot the entire match to which goalie Johnna Campbell promptly saved.

The Pirates (9-5-5, 9-3-2 SCAC) owned a 19-1 shot advantage including 10-1 in shots-on-goal, but the Mountaineers got stellar play from Audrey Rivera in the first half with one save and Kassandra Gomez in the second half with nine saves.

Samantha Hazen led the Pirates with four shots and two on goal while Sydney Boswell added a trio of shots.

Schreiner (6-7-4, 5-5-4 SCAC) and Southwestern found themselves committing a combined 27 fouls throughout the battle as both teams wanted to earn a victory and end the regular season on a high note, but they ultimately had to settle for a tie.
