Women's Soccer Announces 2023 Schedule

Women's Soccer Announces 2023 Schedule

GEORGETOWN, TEXAS - Southwestern University Women's Soccer endured a tumultuous season in 2022, a year that left them with six ties in the record column. Fittingly, the Pirates were kept out of the SCAC Championship by penalty kicks in a 2-2 tie against the Texas Lutheran Bulldogs.

In 2023, Southwestern women's soccer is hoping to turn those ties into wins with the experience of 2022 in their back pocket. However, it will be a tough test in out-of-conference play to start the season. Head Coach Linda Hamilton believes the program has put together the toughest schedule in history.

The Pirates launch into 2023 with a trip to the northeast and their first contest of the year will be against a Virginia Wesleyan team that is coming off a run to the NCAA tournament semifinals. Two days later, Southwestern will battle the 2021 National Champion, Christopher Newport.

Women's soccer will return to Varsity Field for an eight-game home stand in the month of September, leading off with two of the top three teams in the SCIAC, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and Cal Lutheran on Friday, September 8th at 3:00 PM and Sunday, September 10th at 12:00 PM.

In a Tuesday mid-week game, the Pirates close out the first half of out-of-conference play seeking to avenge last year's loss to Mary-Hardin Baylor, who ended #25 in the final national poll of 2022. The Pirates continue to battle a host of American Southwest Conference foes for the remainder of their out-of-conference schedule, taking on McMurry, Howard Payne, Concordia (TX), and Hardin-Simmons before closing out September with a pre-conference match-up against Texas Lutheran.

A new conference format awaits the Pirates in 2023. The SCAC has done away with the double round-robin format and now each team will play each other once and vie for a chance to get into the conference tournament. The Pirates undoubtedly have the best conference schedule in the SCAC, as they will have a home-field advantage for five of their seven conference match-ups. The Pirates fully expect to be back in contention at the conference tournament this year, and with a total of thirteen home games, there is plenty of chance for fans to catch Southwestern women's soccer in action at Varsity Field.

The Pirate's first home match-up is slated for September 8th at 3:00 PM against the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Athenas.
