IRVING, Texas – Malorie Lara scored her first career hat trick to lead Southwestern to a 4-2 win over the University of Dallas in SCAC action on Sunday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- SU's Megan McGrath started the scoring in the 10th minute as Ana Gutierrez's corner kick found McGrath left of goal.
- Mariah Fairbanks evened the count with a goal for Dallas in the 29th minute.
- Lara took the game over at that point and scored in the 34th and 41st minutes, assisted by Ashley Moulder and Hayley Miesse, to send the Pirates into halftime up 3-1.
- UD scored the first goal of the second half as Abigale Weisbrod put away the penalty kick to pull the Crusaders within one, 3-2, with just over ten minutes to play.
- Lara scored the insurance goal on a breakaway and beat the keeper at the top of the box with just seconds remaining in the game to arrive at the 4-2 final.

UP NEXT
The Pirates improve to 7-7-1 on the year and 6-2-1 in the SCAC and have secured a spot in the postseason. Southwestern currently sits in second place in the conference, a half a game ahead of Texas Lutheran, with three games to play. Southwestern next plays host to Schreiner (8-4-2, 5-2-1) on Friday at 6pm.
