Mountaineers top Pirates 1-0

KERRVILLE, Texas – Southwestern women's soccer fell to 5-10-1 on the year and 5-4 in the SCAC after a 1-0 loss to Schreiner University. The Pirates remain in fourth place in the SCAC and have already wrapped up a spot in the post season tournament.

Defenses ruled the first half as each team was only able to get off one shot in the frame. Schreiner's however, was fruitful as Bria Howard, assisted by Ruth Blackburn, snuck one past Katherine Rodgers in goal in the 35th minute.

Each team managed two shots in the second half but neither team found the back of the net as the final buzzer sounded to hand the Pirates the loss.

Southwestern and Schreiner were equal in shots 3-3 while Southwestern had a slight advantage in corner kicks, 5-3.

With three games to play the Pirates have a strong foot hold in the SCAC Championship and are now just fighting for seeding. Southwestern is in fourth place and a game and a half behind Texas Lutheran and a game and a half ahead of Austin College. The Pirates return home to face the University of Dallas on Friday at 8 p.m.
