Pirates Drop Home Opener

Pirates Drop Home Opener

GEORGETOWN, Texas. - The Southwestern women's soccer team had some great looks at goal but couldn't put any away as they fell 2-0 to Concordia on Tuesday evening. The loss drops SU to 0-3 on the season while CUA improves to 1-1.

Southwestern came out on a mission and had two hard shots punched away by CUA's keeper in the first five minutes of the contest, setting the tone.

Concordia was the first on the board, however, with a give and go play that slid past the Pirate defense and just inside the left post, giving the Tornados a 1-0 lead 19 minutes into the game.

At the outset of the second half SU came out strong. Audry Helburn's shot was cleared off the line by Concordia's defense, keeping SU from tying the game. Concordia, however, came back down the field and put another one in the back of the net to lead by 2, 2-0, less than 10 minutes into the second half.

Southwestern continued to press and were knocking at the door, getting two great shots from Allie Dillon. Her first went off the right post and second off the crossbar and kept the Tornados in the lead.

Despite their offensive opportunities SU couldn't get the final touch they needed to put one in the back of the net as they fell 2-0. Sarah Nonaka recorded two saves in goal while Concordia's Kila Hartom posted five saves in the win.

The Pirates continue in search for their first win of the season as they head to UT Dallas on Friday at 7 pm.
