Bevins' second half hat trick leads Pirates to victory

Bevins' second half hat trick leads Pirates to victory

SHREVEPORT, La. - Southwestern scored four second half goals including three from first-year Sarah Bevins, as the Pirates defeated Centenary College 4-0 on Sunday.

It was a relatively quiet first half as the Pirates figured out their best plan of attack. Southwestern got off just nine shots in the frame but set the stage for a huge second half.

SU wasted no time taking control of the game as Audrey Silver put the ball in the back of the net just under four minutes into the frame.

In the 56th and 60th minutes, Bevins and Lindsay Jakszta teamed up to give Southwestern a comfortable 3-0 lead. But, Southwestern and Bevins weren't done as they added one more in the 68th minute, assisted by Kylie O'Connor, to complete the hat trick and give SU the 4-0 win.

The Pirates got off 19 shots in the second half, 28 for the match, and allowed just seven in the entire game to the Ladies. Mariah Escajeda posted five saves in 70 minutes of action. Centenary's Lauren Cullen had 13 saves on Southwestern's 17 shots on goal.

With the win the Pirates improve to 8-7 on the year and remain in second place in the conference at 7-2. They head out on their final regular season road trip next weekend, facing Schreiner and Texas Lutheran on Friday and Sunday.
