Jakszta’s First Half Hat Trick Hands Pirates First Win

OAKLAND, Calif. - Lindsay Jakszta scored three goals in the first 18 minutes of the game as the Pirate's dominated Mills College on Sunday, winning 8-0.

It took just five minutes for Southwestern to get on the board and then five more minutes for the second goal as Lindsay Jakszta, assisted by Chelsea Letzer, found the back of the net twice to give SU an early 2-0 lead.

With the defense in full control in the back field it allowed the Pirates to press forward at will. Danielle De Los Santos, assisted by Letzer, in the 13th minute and Jakszta added her third in the 18th on a penalty kick. Jordan Herselman added a goal for SU with four minutes to play in the half, assisted by Kirsten Mazur, sending Southwestern into the break up 5-0.

Southwestern absolutely dominated the first half, taking 20 shots and holding Mills to one. Starting keeper Katherine Rodgers was never tested in goal as the SU field defense controlled the attack.

Herselman picked up where she left off as the second half got underway, scoring eight minutes into the second frame and the Pirates just kept rolling as Kylie O'Connor added the seventh goal in the 64th minute. Letzer posted a goal of her own, assisted by Rebecca Petro, to arrive at the 8-0 final.

SU crushed the shot count, taking 35 to Mills' one and had four corner kicks while allowing none.

The win improves SU to 1-6 on the year as they move into SCAC conference action on Saturday, facing Trinity at 2 p.m.
