Pirates Lose to Eau Claire, Kurth Breaks Two Single Season Records

GEORGETOWN, TEXAS - Southwestern Women's Lacrosse (2-6, 1-3) made their final road trip of the year this week for a two game conference stint in Wisconsin, first taking on the University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire (10-4, 2-3) on Friday. The Pirates found themselves down 4-7 by the end of the first quarter. However, Southwestern was unable to close the gap trailing 11-5 at halftime. The Eau Claire offense would prove to be too much for the Pirates, going on to win 19-7.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Senior midfielder Raquel Kurth added two more records to her immaculate 2024 season. With four goals on the game, Kurth now owns the record for goals in a single season with 54, previously held by Kaitlyn Campbell in 2014 (51 goals). Kurth has also broken the record for free position goals in a season with 16 which was held by Raven Garcia in 2021 & 2022 (14 FPG). 
  • Cecilla Cantu went for three point on the afternoon scoring two goals and adding one assist. She also totaled five draw controls.
  • Emma Bethke scooped up eight ground balls while stopping six shots in cage for the Pirates.

NOTES

  • R'Yani Vaughn had a pair of caused turnovers as well as two ground balls. 
  • Liana Collins recorded two points off one goal and one assist for the afternoon.
  • The Pirates won eleven draw controls to the Blugolds eighteen while going 11/16 clearing in the contest.
