Women's Lacrosse Routs Cal-Lutheran, Stays Undefeated

The Southwestern Women's Lacrosse team has won their first of three games in their trip to California against the Cal-Lutheran Regals.

Early on, the Regals put up a battle against the Pirates, having a 2-0 lead midway through the first quarter. Natasha Perez-Krause scored the game's first goal after a Regals yellow card. However, the Regals extended their lead back to two shortly after Perez-Krauses' goal. The Pirates' seemingly woke up and went on a six-goal run to end the first quarter 6-3, alongside two goals from Emma Pertuit, Deanna Hames, and Perez-Krause.

What seemed like it would be a competitive game quickly turned into an onslaught of goals from the Pirates. Hames put an incredible four more goals before the half, along with one goal apiece from Sierra Rupp, Raquel Kurth, and Raven Garcia. In total, Hames had 7 goals on the night.  The Regals wouldn't score for the rest of the period and the Pirates took a halftime lead of 13-3.

Other notable performances for the game include Emma Pertuit, who won 10 draw controls in the contest, effortlessly passing her previous season-high of 7. Perez-Krause also had three groundballs in addition to her two goals, and Kate Vlasek had two goals to match her season-high. Unsurprisingly, the assist leader of the night was Raven Garcia, who handed out three goals to her teammates.

It was a relatively easy night on the Pirate defense. Tessa Lewis and Sofia Valdespino only faced 11 shots on goal, Lewis had five saves while Valdespino had two. With the 19-4 win over the Cal-Lutheran Regals, the Pirates remain undefeated at 5-0.

The Pirates will face a much more formidable opponent in the Whittier College Poets on Thursday, March 17th at 7:00 PM PST.
