GEORGETOWN, TEXAS -  Southwestern Women's lacrosse tied the program's all-time win streak on Saturday, advancing to 7-0 on the season with their overtime win against the Sewanee Tigers. The Pirates set the win streak record in 2022, winning seven games in a row from March 19th all the way to April 15th before being defeated by Wisconsin-River Falls. The Pirates will have a chance to break that win streak record on Friday against North Central.

The team opened up the game with seven unanswered goals against the Tigers, seemingly running away with the contest by midway through the second quarter. Although Sewanee scored four goals in the second quarter, the Pirate still led by a 10-4 margin going into halftime.

The Tigers battled back in the third, winning at the draw control and only allowing two goals by Southwestern. Sewanee brought the game to within two goals at the end of the third, with Southwestern nursing an 11-9 lead headed into the fourth.

Sewanee scored three straight in the fourth quarter to take a 12-11 lead with 10:42 left on the clock. DeAnna Hames ended the scoring drought for the Pirates with a momentum-shifting free position shot to tie the game at 12-12. The Tiger and the Pirates traded goals before the clock reached zero, and the teams would go into overtime tied at 13-13.

Two minutes into overtime, Sierra Rupp, who had played defense for most of the game, ran into the heart of the defense on a fast break drawing a free-position shot. Dead center of the field, Rupp cashed in on her free-position, securing the victory and the seventh straight win for the Pirates on the season.

Hames, who had eight points (3G, 5A) broke the all-time career points record in Southwestern Women's lacrosse history. Her game against Sewanee brings her to 195 points for her career, averaging 3.39 goals per game and 1.37 assists per game throughout her time at Southwestern.

Women's lacrosse will play their final home game of the season against North Central on Friday, March 17th at 12:00 PM (Senior Day).
