Women's Lacrosse Wins Conference Opener, Kurth Breaks Single Game Record

GEORGETOWN, TEXAS - Southwestern Women's Lacrosse (1-3) rolled into their conference opener against the University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point (0-5) looking to get a road win for the second time this season. The Pirates did just that, grinding out a win against the Pointers, led by Southwestern senior midfielder Raquel Kurth. Kurth scored eleven goals against the Pointers, breaking the schools single game record that was previously held by Raven Garcia since April 23rd, 2021. The Pirates took down the Pointers 17-14 for their first win as a member of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • In addition to Kurth's eleven goals, she also scooped up five GBs, had seven draw controls and three caused turnovers.
  • Cecilla Cantu, went for a combined eight points with five goals and three assists, breaking her own personal record of points in a single game. She now has twenty-six on the season.
  • Susette Mireles, scored for the Pirates, her third goal in five games played in 2024.

NOTES

  • Freshman Sydney Martin collected four out of the Pirates eighteen total ground balls. 
  • Hallie Mayfield won four draw controls for Southwestern, helping the Pirates win the draw control battle 18-17.
  • R'Yani Vaughn picked up two ground balls as well as causing one turnover against the Pointers.
