RIVER FALLS, Wis. -- The Southwestern University women's lacrosse fell short four goals against UW-River Falls, ending their Saturday afternoon game in a 14-10 loss.

The Pirates began the game with Brynne Hardway scoring the first goal of the game. The Falcons answered back to tie the game and then score a quick second goal. The score jump-started UW-River Falls, maintained a lead over the Pirates the rest of the game. The Falcons held the Pirates to three goals while they were able to score eight goals first half. UW-River Falls outshot the Pirate by 11 shots, taking the offensive advantage.

In the second half, Southwestern gained more offensive possessions by winning nine draw controls and taking 12 shots at the Falcon goal. But 14 turnovers in the first half and 16 turnovers in the second half hurt the Pirates and kept them from gaining any momentum to catch up to the Falcons. The game ended with the Pirates losing their second game of the season.

Highlights from the game included Raven Garcia scoring the game-high with four goals, followed by Deanna Hames, who scored three goals and had four ground balls. Emma Pertuit won six draw controls and Raquel Kurth scored two goals for the Pirates. Southwestern goalie Tessa Lewis had eight saves and Sofia Valdespino stopped five goals.

Up next, Southwestern women's lacrosse will host their first Southern Colligate Athletic Conference (SCAC) match against the Colorado College Tigers on Saturday, April 10 at 5 p.m.
