GEORGETOWN, Texas -- The Southwestern's University women's lacrosse team had the lead half time score, but that was not enough to seal the game which ended with the Saint Mary's College Bellas winning 17-12 on Varsity Field Sunday afternoon.

In the first few minutes of the game, the Bellas attacked the Pirate goal, relentless at cutting through the Pirate defense and taking shots at Sofia Valdespino, which resulted in four Bella goals, including one from a free position attempt.

Johnee Wolter broke the Pirates scoreless streak by firing in a shot off of a pass from Raven Garcia. Wolter then scored two more back to back shots, giving the Pirates some energy to get back into the game. The game went back and forth with the Pirates tying it up and then the Bellas would score a goal to take the lead in the game.  With the clock winding down before halftime, Wolter scored off a pass from Emma Pertuit to tie the game 8-8. Then Pertuit made one more goal for the Pirates,  ending the half 9-8 as the Pirates gained their first lead in the game.

Going right into the second half, once again both Southwestern and Saint Mary's would battle back and forth to tie and then gain a one-point lead. Deanna Hames and Jillie Klumbach made two back to back goals to make the score 12-11 with the Pirates ahead by one. But the Bellas went on a six point scoring streak in the last 14 minutes of the game, and the Pirates could not seem to answer back with any goals. The game ended 17-12 with the Pirates taking their second loss in the season.

Some highlighted players of the game include Wolter, who was the high scorer putting up five goals and one assist. Hames scored two goals and three ground balls, while Pertuit scored two goals, one assist and four ground balls. Klumbach, Garcia and Grace Maynard each had one goal.

Up next, the Pirates will get ready for two more home games. On Tuesday, March 10, they play Carthage College at 6 p.m., and then Wednesday, March 11 they play Wittenberg University at 7 p.m. Both games are at Varsity Field.
