Grace Maynard Named SCAC Women's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week

The Southwestern University Pirates women's lacrosse team swept the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week awards in the season's opening weekend.

Senior midfielder Grace Maynard was named the SCAC Women's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week for her performances from Jan. 3 through Feb. 9.

Maynard caused three turnovers and a ground ball while contributing three goals and an assist in the Pirates' 16-7 season-opening victory over the Hendrix Warriors. This is Maynard's second career SCAC Defensive Player of the Week award, winning the award in the opening weekend of last season. 

Southwestern is 1-1 after opening the season with matches against Hendrix and Rhodes College. The Pirates will host Elmira on Monday, Feb. 17 at 7:00 p.m.
