Womens Swimming & Diving Earns First Place in Season Opener

GEORGETOWN, TEXAS- After two exhibition meets this Fall, the women's swimming and diving team kicked off their season with a Tri-Meet at Rice University. 

St. Thomas and Loyola joined the Pirates in Houston for the two-day meet on October 14th and 15th. 

The women's team has nine newcomers for the year and the Pirates were eager to have the opportunity to compete. Delaney Anthony earned first place in the 100 Yard IM with a time of 1:05.4 and not far behind her was first year, Ellan Bonvillian in a time of 1:06.7. Ella Bonvillian was top performer for the 100 Yard Butterfly in a time of 1:01.14 and 200 Yard Butterfly in 2:18.31. Cidette Rice earned first place in the 1M Dive for both days of competition. 

Elise Samples earned first place in the 100 Yard Freestyle with a time of 56.27 and the 200 Yard IM in 2:18.93. She also won the 200 Yard Backstroke in 2:15.66. Samples participated in the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay, along with Delaney Anthoney, Ella Bonvillian, and Annie LeBlanc, which took first place in 3:48.32.With a time of 4:15.98, Emma Williams, Ella Bonvillian, Annie LeBlanc, and Elise Samples won first place in the 400 Yard Medley Relay. Williams also earned first place in the 50 Yard Freestyle in 25.95 and the 100 Yard Freestyle in 56.85. Annie LeBlanc earned first in the 200 Yard Breaststroke with a 2:39.10 mark.

Head coach Jon Duncan commented on the weekend, "This was a fun, first meet for our swimmers and divers.  It was nice to get to swim outside despite being a little chilly at night and in the early morning.  We got the nerves out of our system and will be ready for our next competition in Colorado next week."

The Women finished in first place with 203 points. Loyola was second with 172 and St. Thomas finished with 27.

The Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving Teams will be traveling to compete against Colorado College October 27th & 28th.
