Pirates Tie for Second at Tiger Invite, Mansell Breaks School Record

GEORGETOWN, TEXAS - The Southwestern Women's Swimming and Diving team secured a second-place tie with NCAA DII University of Texas - Permian Basin (UTPB) in the five-team Trinity Tiger Invitational. Southwestern, UTPB, Trinity, McMurry, and Loyola - New Orleans all competed in the three-day meet at Alamo Heights High School Natatorium.

Day 1: The team of Elise Samples (Fy.), Annie LeBlanc (Fy.), Molly Spano (Jr.) and Emma Williams (Jr.) finished in third place with a time of 4:04.25 in the 400 yd. medley relay. In the individual events, Spano earned third place in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:14.21. To end the day, Samples captured second in the 200 IM with a time of 2:10.01. 

Day 2: Spano and Samples continued to place in the top three on day two. Spano captured second place in the 400 IM with a time of 4:39.7, while Samples earned third place in the 100 yd. backstroke, holding a time of 58.62. Emma Frey (Jr.) followed closely behind her teammate in fourth position with a time of 59.81.

Day 3: Samples and Spano continued to be mainstays atop their events on the final day of the Tiger Invitational. Spano remained consistent in her distance events, ending the 1650 freestyle in third place with a time of 18:05.39. Spano also secured a third-place finish in the 200 Butterfly, clocking in 2:14.33. Samples earned her second, second-place individual finish in the 200 backstroke, clocking in a time of 2:06.41. LeBlanc earned an individual third-place finish in the 200 breaststroke by way of a 2:28.46, and Ella Harmon (So.) also secured a top-three finish in the 200 butterfly with a 2:19.71.The team of Samples, Williams, Frey, and Delaney Anthony (Jr.) put on a stellar performance in the 400 yd freestyle relay, securing second place and a time of 3:34.21, just .59 seconds ahead of a Trinity team. 

One of the highlights of the Tiger Invitational for the Pirates was a school record-breaking performance for first-year diver Kristin Mansell. Mansell, The Austin, Texas native, broke the school record on 11 dives from the 1-meter mark with a score of 342.30. Mansell ended her meet in third place on the 1-meter dive and finished in second place in the 3-meter dive with a score of 176. 

The Pirates return to their home pool to host McMurry University on December 16th at 1:00 PM
