Hauck and Gierat Pace Pirates at UT Permian Basin

MIDLAND, Texas — A shorthanded Southwestern swimming and diving team competed for the first time since November's Trinity Invitational, facing the University of Texas Permian Basin Falcons in a dual meet. 

The Pirates traveled 15 swimmers, taking eight women and seven men and winning eight events. 

Sophomore Maysen Hauck and senior Natalie Gierat led the women with two victories each. Hauck took the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:01.84 and the 500-yard freestyle at 5:31.38. Gierat won the 100-yard breaststroke by clocking in at 1:13.13 and the 200-yard individual medley at 3:48.78. Sophomore Delaney Anthony scored a win in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 55.90. 

Junior Sam Anderson earned a win for the men's team with a time of 2:13.87 in the 200-yard breaststroke and was part of the 400-yard freestyle relay's top time of 3:19.71 along with Kevan Kennedy, Nathan Abrego, and Carter Duncan. Duncan also notched a win in the 200-yard individual medley with a final time of 2:10.66). 

Southwestern will have one final meet at home against Trinity University on Saturday, January 29, before closing the season with the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships in Garland, Texas, from Feb. 16-19.
