Stovall and Hartsell Make History in Final Day of SCAC Championship

SAN ANTONIO, Texas –  Two Southwestern women swimmers made history on the final day of the Southern Athletic Collegiate Conference (SCAC) Swim & Dive Championships as the Southwestern women's swimming and diving team placed second in the championship.

For the third time in her career, Jesse Stovall took top honors in the event with a finishing time of 51.94 in the 100 freestyle. She is the fourth woman in SCAC history to win first place three times or more in the 100 freestyle. In addition, the victory marked her eighth career SCAC title. Stovall also won SCAC co-swimmer of the meet for the second time in her career. In addition, she won first place in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 23.92,  and she took first place in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 57.20.

Rehgan Hartsell made career history in the 200 breaststroke as she swept the event with a gold medal performance of 2:24.53 and won first place for the fourth consecutive year. Hartsell also won first place in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:06.04 and sixth place in the women's 200-yard IM with a time of 2:14.38.

Southwestern totaled 794 points to claim second place in the SCAC championships. Trinity women's swim and dive team won an 18th consecutive conference title, totaling 1029 points. Colorado College won third place with a score of 506 points, followed by Centenary College at fourth with 477 points, Austin College at fifth with 324 points, University of the Ozarks at sixth with 275 and McMurry University at seventh with 187 points.

In other highlights from the meet, Kyla Gorman won fourth place in both the women's 1-meter and 3-meter diving competitions with scores of 326.70 and 300.75. Sydney Lo won fifth place in the 1-meter with a score of 265.85.

Maysen Hauck won second place in both the women's 400-yard IM and the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 4:42.33 and 2:07.08. Hauck also placed seventh in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:18.74.

Emma Frey placed high for the Pirates, first tieing for fourth place with Emma Williams in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.00, then placing fourth in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 53.99, and next taking third place in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:01.30.

The Pirates won four second-place finishes with Stovall, Williams, Hartsell and Frey in the women's 200-yard freestyle relay, the 400-yard freestyle relay, the 200-yard medley relay and the 400-yard medley relay.

Southwestern is led by Head Coach Jon Duncan, along with assistant coach Sarah James.
