Swimming and Diving Celebrates Seniors Against Trinity

GEORGETOWN, Texas — Southwestern celebrated its seniors and geared up for the upcoming Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Championships with a final home meet against Trinity. 

Men's swimmer Keshaun Patel and women's swimmer Jesse Stovall headlined the afternoon with individual victories in their respective events before signing their name to a piece of Walzel Natatorium alongside their fellow seniors per Southwestern swimming and diving tradition. 

Patel scored a victory in the 1,000-yard freestyle, clocking in at 10:32.60, beating Trinity's William Kitto's time of 11:06.57. Stovall continued her dominance in the 50-yard freestyle, finishing at 24.46 for the victory. 

"We're really proud of the senior class with all the work they've put in and the resiliency they've shown over the past two years," Southwestern head swimming and diving coach Jon Duncan says. "It was nice to share this last moment at home for our seniors, and we look forward to seeing how the team performs at the conference meet." 

On the men's side, Sam Anderson notched a pair of victories, winning the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 59.09, and the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:10.80. Zach Kangaiser also earned two wins, taking the 200-yard butterfly (1:58.25) and 500-yard freestyle (4:59.53). Henry McClure was victorious in the 50-yard freestyle (21.46). 

For the women, Zoe Garcia won the 200-yard freestyle by clocking in at 1:57.43. The women also earned a victory in the 200-yard freestyle relay, with Garcia, Stovall, Emma Williams, and Delaney Anthony finishing at 1:39.23. 

Southwestern will compete in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Championships in Garland, Texas, from Feb. 16 - Feb. 19.
