Pirates Continue in Second Place at SCAC Championships 

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The Southwestern University women's swim team kept its second-place lead in the second day of competition at the 2021 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Swimming & Diving Championships Friday.

Southwestern scored 512 points, right behind Trinity University which scored 648 points.

Rehgan Hartsell won first in her signature stroke, the women's 100-yard breaststroke, with a time of 1:06.04. Natalie Gierat finished seventh with a time of 1:10.23, Jennifer Turlington finished 10th with a time of 1:13.71 and Alexys Matcuk finished 14th with a time of 1:19.83.

Once again, Jesse Stovall placed in first for the Pirates in the women's 100-yard butterfly with a time of 57.20. Hannah Kral also ranked high in the event coming in at sixth with a time of 1:02.11.

Today was the first day of the women's and men's diving competition, where Kyla Gorman placed fourth in the women's 1 meter with a score of 326.70 and Sydney Lo placed fifth with a score of 265.85.

In the women's 400-yard IM, Maysen Hauck placed second with a time of 4:42.33. Turlington placed seventh with a time of 5:04.73, followed by Sydney Webb who placed 12th with a time of 5:32.97.

Six Pirates placed in the top 10 of the 100-yard backstroke, with Emma Frey finishing in third place with a time of 1:01.30, Alicia Peters coming in fifth with a time of 1:02.15, Kate Dudley placing sixth with a time of 1:02.67 and Delaney Anthony at seventh with a time of 1:02.97. Riley Barlage finished in eighth place with a time of 1:03.32 and Emma Williams finished 10th with a time of 1:03.50.

In the women's 200-yard freestyle Zoe Garcia placed sixth for the Pirates with a time of 1:59.14, Catherine Hiebel placed ninth with a time of 2:01.37 and Natalie Hicks placed 16th with a time of 2:09.68

There were two relays where the Southwestern women's swim team competed in the 200-yard medley relay and the 800-yard freestyle relay. In the medley, Frey, Hartsell, Stovall and Williams placed second with a time of 1:47.26, and in the freestyle relay, Hartsell, Garcia, Hauck, snd Stovall also placed second with a time of 7:59.49.

The last day of the SCAC Championships starts Saturday, Feb. 13 at 10 a.m. with the final swimming and diving events and awards.
