Women's Swimming & Diving Earns Three More Wins, Remain in Second

GARLAND, Texas — Jesse Stovall continues her string of dominance at conference meets, winning another event and adding another NCAA B-cut while the Southwestern women's swimming and diving team maintained its second-place standing. 

Stovall won the 100-yard butterfly for the third time in four years with a time of 55.71, setting a new school record and besting Colorado College's Kate Brush (55.93). The victory moves Stovall second all-time in the SCAC for top-five finishes and earns her a third NCAA individual B-cut this season. 

Southwestern picked up two other victories on the third day of competition

Molly Spano opened the afternoon with a breakthrough performance in the 400-yard individual medley, winning the event at conference for the first time in her career. Spano set a new Southwestern record in the process, finishing in 4:35.23 to edge out Colorado College's Key Macfarland, who clocked in at 4:36.51. 

Emma Frey ended an 11-year drought for Southwestern in the 100-yard backstroke with a first-place finish of 58.35, edging out Trinity's Mabel Fowler's time of 58.39. 

Chelsey Southwell had a strong showing for Southwestern, finishing second in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:12.38. Centenary's Madelyn Frederick won the event with a time of 1:12.29. 

The Southwestern women closed the day with a second-place finish in the 400-yard individual medley relay. Frey, Natalie Gierat, Stovall, and Zoe Garcia finished in 3:57.62. Trinity won the relay with a time of 3:49.57. 

After three days and 24 events, Trinity maintains its overall lead with 610 points. Southwestern follows at 525, and Colorado College at 416 to round out the top three. Tomorrow, the teams will compete in the 200-yard backstroke, 100-yard freestyle, 200-yard breaststroke, 200-yard butterfly, 400-yard freestyle relay, 1,650-yard freestyle, women's one-meter diving, and men's three-meter diving.
